Best Rosés for Summer

Please tell me you are a rosé fan! If not, you’re about to become one. I’ve said it before, rosé is my drink of choice year-round. It’s easy to drink, fruit-forward and refreshing. Let’s be clear, we’re not talking about the uber-sweet white zinfandel or moscato you may think of when you think of pink wine.

A good rosé is on the drier side and not overly sweet. I look for something pale pink in color and usually from the South of France (where most of the best rosé comes from). Besides tasting great, a dry rosé has less sugar than other wines and most are surprisingly affordable! I’ve rounded up my favorite picks, all under $20, below.

Whispering Angel Rosé

The godfather. This wine is actually part of the reason I love rosé so much. Whispering Angel was one of my clients when I worked for a PR firm in NYC. It’s been named the worlds best rosé by multiple sources and is the number one selling French imported wine. Easy to drink and downright delicious, a bottle goes for around $20. PS: Whispering Angel’s big sister, Rock Angel, is also one of my favorites, but harder to find and a little more pricy at around $30 a bottle. I also love The Palm by Whispering Angel, which is such a pretty bottle and a little cheaper around $14!

Cotes Des Rosés Rosé

Maybe my second favorite, I usually serve this one if I don’t have Whispering Angel. Light and easy to drink, but still fruit forward. A bottle is around $16.

Domaine Montrose Rosé

This should be your rosé table wine. From the South of France, it’s fruity, crisp and especially easy to drink all day.  A bottle will run you around $12.

Dark Horse Rosé

This is the rosé you’ll always be able to find. Dark Horse is out of California and one of my go-tos for affordable wines. Their rosé is Provence style AND they also sell it in a can… hello picnics! It’s usually carried at most major wine/liquor stores and I’ve always been able to find it at Kroger Wine, Liquor Barn or even Target for around $10 a bottle.

Santa Cristina Rosé

The exception to my South of France rule, Santa Cristina was also one of my clients in NYC and they have a fantastic Italian rosé! This should be your go-to affordable choice, usually around $8.
