Five Fun Things: July 2022

So it’s somehow already almost the end of Summer šŸ™ Actually we’re only 2/3 through technically, but with everyone talking back to school it feels like Fall is around the corner! I have had a crazy month with work travel almost every week, so it definitely flew by for me. I have one week at home before I leave for Mexico next Monday, then a few weeks before my best friend’s wedding at the end of the month then a week in Europe! Trying to soak up every bit of Summer in the midst of the crazy.

What Iā€™m Reading

I read one of Manda Collins’ books and wanted to try the other in the series: A Lady’s Guide to Mischief & Mayhem. It was a light and fun read with a love interest. Not the world’s best writing or literature, but if you like a fluffy read set in old England, you’ll love. A beach trip called for an Elin Hilderbrand book, and I really enjoyed Silver Girl. “Meredith Martin Delinn just lost everything: her friends, her homes, her social standing ā€” because her husband Freddy cheated rich investors out of billions of dollars. Desperate and facing homelessness, Meredith receives a call from her old best friend, Constance Flute. Connie’s had recent worries of her own, and the two depart for a summer on Nantucket in an attempt to heal.” I read two Therese Fowler books.. I loved A Well Behaved Woman, a novel about Alva Vanderbilt. I found the story fascinating and loved a peek into such a different world. I also read Z: A Novel of Zelda Fitzgerald, which I didn’t love quite as much probably because the true story of Zelda (F. Scott Fitzgerald the author’s wife) is a bit sad. Head Over Heels was a light rom com about an ex Olympic gymnast who ends up back in her hometown training an up and comer. It was a decent beach read, but I’d probably rank it a 3.5/5.

What Iā€™m Loving

I bought these low carb high protein tortilla chips during Prime Day and love them! They taste kinda like a Dorito mixed with a Siete tortilla chip. Definitely satisfies my crunch craving when eating low carb. I will say the serving size is on the smaller size, but probably just not used to the correct servings for chips šŸ˜‰

I just finished a session of LEAN, a nutrition and weight loss program run by a local dietician, Amanda Nighbert. I really loved the program! It is super manageable and realistic and I never felt deprived. I needed some accountability after not treating my body well during the pandemic. What I love most about LEAN is that you learn the science behind nutrition. Amanda really dives into the health aspect, as opposed to focusing solely on weight loss. I do feel like I’ve learned things I will apply for the rest of my life and tools to stay consistent moving forward! I also lost 7 pounds, so that’s great too šŸ˜‰ You can save $10 off the program with code LA035E.

One of the aspects of LEAN is intermittent fasting. Amanda encourages electrolyte water during fasting, and I am really loving the Ultima electrolyte mix. It’s zero calories so won’t break your fast and I really can tell that it helps curb my hunger. You just mix a scoop in your water. It comes in several different flavors – I love passionfruit, raspberry is my second fav.

What Iā€™m Watching

I’ve tried to get into The Summer I Turned Pretty, but wasn’t in the headspace to get past the first episode. Everyone’s telling me I need to try again! Has anyone loved it? I did watch the new Persuasion movie on Netflix and absolutely loved it! Highly recommend if you’re a Jane Austen or Bridgerton fan. Currently rewatching Virgin River so I can start the new season too.

What Iā€™m Listening To

I died laughing listening to Heather McMahan’s podcast about her honeymoon. Must listen if you need a pick-me-up!

Where Iā€™m Giving

We gave to Baby Health in June, which is a local organization that provides free, quality preventative and primary healthcare to the uninsured children of Central Kentucky from birth through age 18. They work with families to get children into school and to support them by providing physicals, sick visits and vaccinations. Like I’m sure all of you, I’m gutted by the flooding in Eastern Kentucky. We donated to the Foundation for Appalachian Kentucky’s crisis fund, but am still looking into ways I can help. My dad works in EKY and four of his employees lost their homes and all their possessions. I want to work on a way to support them, but trying to figure out what makes the most sense. Stay tuned ā¤ļø

Biscuits & blessings,

Leels
