Five Fun Things: January 2021

Hi friends! I started this series before the holidays, and then things got kinda busy, but I’m bringing it back! Each month I share what I’m reading, any new obsessions, what I’m watching and listening to. I’ve also shared before that Dave and I give away 10% of our income, and that is a value of my blog too. I want to make sure I keep y’all informed so you can know who you are supporting by supporting my blog, so will share that here as well! Check out January’s obsessions:

What I’m Reading

I always do a better job of reading at the beginning of the year.. I loved The Jane Austen Society, “Set in the tiny village of Chawton, during and after World War II, it’s a story about eight people from very different backgrounds—from a farm laborer to a movie starlet—who, in saving the house Jane Austen last lived in from developers, unexpectedly save themselves from loneliness, grief, and loss.” If you love brit lit, you’ll love this. I also finished Party of Two by Jasmine Guillory. I love everything she writes so not surprised that I devoured this book! A fun, but smart romance. I also started rereading Big Magic, Elizabeth Gilbert’s book on creativity. It’s one of those books you can read every year and is setting my mind right for some new year inspiration.

What I’m Obsessed With

I put myself on a “spending freeze” at the beginning of the year, meaning that I’m not shopping for myself. Nothing too extreme, but I just felt the need to reign in the spending post holidays 😉 I did make exceptions for gifts.. and ended up shopping my Galentine’s Gift Guide. I got my girlfriends these fun pouches from Packed Party and okay I bought myself one too. I just couldn’t help myself! Dave was really sweet and got me this sparkly headband I had been obsessing over and y’all it is so worth $17 because it makes me happy every time I put it on. I also just started using Tula’s Vitamin C Serum and it is definitely a new obsession. I feel like it’s helped even out the tone of my skin and help with any scars from mascne. I shared my updated skincare routine here.

What I’m Watching

So I know I’m late to the party, but I just started Schitt’s Creek and I can’t stop watching. For the longest time I didn’t get the hype around the show and thought it was so odd. I especially couldn’t stand Moira’s voice, but so many people told me to get through the first five or six episodes and I’d be hooked, and they were right. The characters are endearing and you end up loving them. I’ve also heard a lot of hype about the Brittney Spears documentary, has anyone watched?

What I’m Listening To

To be honest, I chose to listen to this podcast because I thought the guest was someone different, but am glad I did, because I ended up really enjoying their conversation and would have never normally chosen to listen to it: Sissy Goff, a counselor and author specializing in helping teen girls, on Jamie Ivey’s podcast. She shared some great insights into parenting girls and mental health in general. One of my dear friends also just launched a podcast, Habit + Love, and it’s been great for setting realistic, healthy habits in the new year.

Where I’m Giving

Some of you may remember I visited Haiti through my church a couple years ago. I have sponsored a scholarship for a child to attend school each year since, and unfortunately due to the pandemic the cost of tuition doubled this year. I’m so grateful for y’alls support of my blog that made it possible to continue to sponsor despite the cost increase! You can learn more about the school here
