Hi friends! Back with my five fun things from the month of January. Check out what I’m reading, my latest obsessions, what I’m listening to, watching and where I’m giving below:
What I’m Reading
I’m currently reading The Paris Wife, which fictionalizes Ernest Hemingway’s first marriage. I’m not far enough in to give an opinion, but like it so far. I finished several books over the holidays. I devoured The Wedding Date, as I always do with Jasmine Guillory’s books. I loved Recipe for Persuasion, a romantic comedy about a chef who turns to competing in a cooking show to save her deceased father’s restaurant, but ends up paired with her celebrity ex boyfriend. I know it sounds like a lot, but it was the perfect easy fun read. I realllly liked The Last Thing He Told Me for 95% of the book, but was not totally satisfied with the ending. It’s very suspenseful and keeps you glued to the page, I just would have maybe ended it a different way 😉
What I’m Obsessed With
My mother in law put this little bottle scraper scoop in my Christmas stocking and it has been a game changer! I just finished one of my favorite lipstick/balms, but it’s expensive and wanted to use every last bit. This little scoop perfectly gets it out and can apply directly to my lips. I’ve gotten at least 15 more uses out of a lipstick I was going to throw away! It also comes with a tube key you can use to get product out of tubes. I also just found a few amazing finds from Walmart, these boots that look just like my J. Crew Nordic boots, but for $20. And I’m obsessed with this smocked dress for spring! Also make sure to check out my Galentine’s Gift Guide here.
What I’m Watching
So I’ve been watching And Just Like That, the Sex and the City reboot. I have pretty mixed feelings… like many people are saying it feels like they tried to fit in every topical social issue into the first two episodes and make up for all the past seasons of zero diversity. It’s a noble, and much needed effort, but almost feels like overkill, like they’re trying so hard that it’s obvious, and thus less impactful? I also don’t love that Miranda is cheating and Samantha is missing. But it is nice to see the girls back together and I’m still watching nonetheless! I’ve also been on a huge Downton Abbey kick, so I’m thinking of starting the new HBO show The Gilded Age. It’s a period drama by the same creator, Julian Fellowes. Has anyone started it? Is it worth it?
What I’m Listening To
I recently got into Smartless, a podcast hosted by Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes and Will Arnett. Each episode one of the hosts brings in a mystery guest to the other two.
Where I’m Giving
I actually just set up a monthly gift to the local YMCA’s Black Achievers program. The program serves youth in Lexington, grades 6-12, and is designed to develop future leadership potential and encourage youth to pursue higher educational and career goals. They provide mentors and role models and opportunities for participants to engage with local businesses.
