Five Fun Things: September 2020

Hi friends! I’m starting a new monthly series. I used to do weekly posts with what I was reading or any fun links I found that week, but it got to be a little much. I wanted to find a way to share more personal details and recommendations. Each month I’ll share what I’m reading, any new purchases I’m obsessed with, what I’m watching and listening to. I’ve also shared on Instagram before that Dave and I give away 10% of what we make, and that I want that to be a value of my blog as well. Each month I choose a different nonprofit or organization to donate to on behalf of the blog, and want to make sure I keep y’all informed so you can know who you are supporting by supporting my blog!

What I’m Reading

I started The Poisonwood Bible last month and still haven’t gotten through it (over 500 pages), but I’m invested in the story and going to finish! It’s told from the point of view of a mother and her four daughters who move to the Congo in the 1950s on a mission with their husband/father, a Baptist preacher. I’m at the point where the story is about to get really interesting!

What I’m Obsessed With

I caved and bought a mask chain/masklace. It’s a gold paperclip chain (also come in silver, $25 each) and is very delicate. I got a lot of compliments on it and I will say it makes taking your mask off/on much more convenient. I also went a little nutty decorating for fall this month. I never decorate for anything but Christmas, but needed something to look forward to. I got some really cute natural and raffia pumpkins from Target. Most of them are sold out now, but this one below is still in stock in multiple colors! I also got this ceramic one. I also did a fall haul at Trader Joe’s – you must try the Pumpkin Batons.

Speaking of holidays, I found these mini ginger jar ornaments ($22.09 for four) and am thinking about doing a whole ginger jar themed tree…

What I’m Watching

I just started Call the Midwife on Netflix. It’s a BBC show about a group of nurses working in the East End of London in the 1950s. It’s pretty light hearted and feel good and you can’t help but love all the characters. I was in the mood for another Downton Abbey, which it’s not quite, but charming nonetheless. If you have any recommendations for a British romancey show leave them in the comments below! Thinking I’m going to start Emily in Paris soon.. anyone watched it? Also like everyone else I binged The Home Edit on Netflix in one weekend and then promptly organized my fridge and cabinets. All the food storage/bins I used are saved in my Amazon shop under Kitchen.

What I’m Listening To

I really loved this episode of the That Sounds Fun Podcast with Tyler Merritt. You may recognize him from the Before You Call the Cops video. If you listen to podcasts I’m sure you’ve heard Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert.. I really appreciated his honesty and vulnerability in Day 7 about his sobriety.

Where I’m Giving

I heard something about how God’s Pantry’s demand has increased due to Corona Virus, so decided to support them in September. It’s also been weighing me that with kids out of school many children are without the only source of stability in their lives, and the performance gap will only widen. I’m wondering if anyone knows of a local organization supporting children in need at this time, maybe those without access to wifi etc to do schoolwork? If you know of anything please comment below! PS: If you’d like to give back to a local teacher, you can do so on this post!
