Green Chili Jam Cheesy Sausage Cups

I’m really excited about today’s recipe.. I feel like it’s going to be your new favorite! Mostly because it’s my new favorite 😉 Green Chili Jam challenged me to create a recipe and after tasting their delicious “jewel of jams” I knew I needed to come up with an appetizer for y’all. Green Chili Jam is an award winning jam locally made out of Louisville made by Big Whisk Brands. PS: This recipe is definitely better with Green Chili Jam, but if you can’t find it, you can also use pepper jelly!

The sweet and spicy elements of the jam pair well with sausage. I came up with an easy one handed appetizer by combining ground sausage, cheese and the jam and spooning into mini phyllo cups. You can find mini phyllo cups in the freezer section of the grocery store by the pie crusts. These make the perfect one or two bite snack. They’d be great for tailgating or game watch parties. I made them to watch the Derby with some friends, and they were the first thing to go. This recipe is also a great one to prep ahead of time! Prepare the sausage cups all the way through filling the phyllo cups, then instead of baking them put them back in the plastic tray they came in, wrap in plastic wrap and put back in the box and freeze. You can cook them straight from frozen, just cook for 2-3 minutes longer than called for. I do this often when I have a smaller crowd and only need 30 sausage cups at a time, then you have the rest of them ready the next time you need an appetizer!

Green Chili Jam Cheesy Sausage Cups, makes 45

  • 1 1/2 cups shredded Monterey Jack cheese
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 60 mini phyllo cups

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350
  2. Brown sausage over medium-high heat, drain any excess grease and return to pan
  3. Turn heat to low and add cheese and Green Chili Jam to sausage and stir until cheese is fully melted
  4. Remove sausage mixture from heat
  5. Place phyllo cups on a baking sheet and add about a tablespoon of the sausage mixture to each cup
  6. Bake for 8-10 minutes until phyllo cups start to brown
