Lightened Up French Onion Dip

I’ve had a very specific craving for French onion dip recently.. like the good old fashioned dip made with Liptons soup packets and served with ruffled chips. Sometimes you just need a classic! I wanted to try lightening up the dip a bit, so I used Greek yogurt in place of the sour cream and it ended up working out so well! You all know Greek yogurt is my secret weapon in just about any scenario.. it’s a great source of protein and easy way to lighten up traditionally heavy dishes that are made with mayo or sour cream. Make sure to get plain Greek yogurt, not a flavor. I use non-fat, but whatever you prefer is fine. If you’re wary of the yogurt, you can also try using half sour cream and half greek yogurt to start. I tested the recipe both ways and liked both.

I also caramelized some onions to really accentuate the onion flavor! You don’t have to add these if you’re in a hurry, but it’s an easy way to add lots of flavor. I personally think caramelized onions make any dish better! Just make sure to dice the onions fine so that you get a little onion in every bite.

How easy is that? Obviously this is a great game day recipe and easy to throw together when you’re hosting or heading to a potluck, but I also love to use the leftovers to dress up dinner. Serve this as a dipping sauce with some grilled chicken or throw it on pitas or rice bowls. Check out more of my favorite game day recipes here.
