My Favorite Podcasts

Are you a podcast person? It seems like everyone is these days. I love podcasts. I listen to them in the car, at work, in the shower, on walks… It depends on my current mood, but I’d say I listen to podcasts at least five days out of the week on average. Check out my favorites below! I tried to break them into categories of learning, motivation/self help and just for fun, but there’s definitely crossover between the three.

To Learn

Christy Wright’s Business Boutique

Christy Wright is a Dave Ramsey personality who inspires women to make money doing what they love. Her podcast gives very tangible advice and shares real life stories. I love that she’s to the point and I usually walk away feeling like I can take something from each podcast. I’m going to her business conference in the fall of 2020 and am so excited! Christy is a Christian and will often bring up her faith in her podcast as well. I personally enjoy the example of how you can be a business industry leader and also strong in your faith.

Online Marketing Made Easy with Amy Porterfield

Amy Porterfield is an expert in digital marketing. Her podcast is another one that gives great tangible advice. She covers topics like email marketing, social media, content creation, budgeting and more. Probably only applicable if you’re a marketer or own your own business, but I’ve learned a lot from Amy.

The Goal Digger Podcast

Jenna Kutcher is a photographer turned business maven who hosts this business podcast geared towards women. She covers a lot of marketing topics, but any small business owner will learn something from her. Jenna gives very tactical advice, often listing step by step how to do something. She provides a lot of free resources on her site to pair with episodes too.

The goop Podcast

A little woo woo sometimes, but I love the goop podcast! It’s hosted by Gwyneth Paltrow and goop’s chief content officer, Elise Loehnen, but Gwyneth is on it maybe 30% of the time. They typically cover wellness in all sorts of forms from intermittent fasting to interviewing psychologists to finding your purpose in life. Sometimes it’s a little out there for me, but I’ve also learned a lot from them and been exposed to topics I wouldn’t normally be drawn to.

Snacks Daily

I started listening to this when I decided I wanted to become more financially literate. It’s a daily (weekdays) podcast sharing digestible financial news. They break down three of the top stories from the previous day in 15 minutes. I listen to it on my way to work. The two hosts are younger and super relatable. They appeal to the millennial crowd, but in an intelligent way.

Motivational/Self Help

How I Built This

Okay I know everyone and their mother listens to this, but it’s popular for a reason! From NPR, Guy Raz interviews different entrepreneurs each week, learning how they built their company. I’m always inspired when I listen to it.

Raising the Bar with Alli and Michael

The founders of Drybar, who are actually brother and sister, interview different entrepreneurs each week. I would call this a How I Built This for millennials. They interview “budding and successful” business owners, so it’s a good mix of people who’ve “made it” and those on their way.

RISE

My fav Rachel Hollis, an author and motivational speaker, provides tangible and tactical tools for life and business. It’s a mix of self-help and business advice, much how Rachel encourages women to become their best self while pursuing their dreams. A mix of her covering topics on her own and interviewing experts.

RISE Together

Speaking of, Rachel also hosts a relationship podcast with her husband Dave. My husband Dave and I have listened to a few together and it’s helped us discuss topics we may have never thought of before, like how to plan for the week ahead on Sundays.

That Sounds Fun with Annie F. Downs

Annie is a Christian author and speaker. Her podcast is kind of like listening in on a conversation she’s having with a friend. She typically interviews other Christian figures, but often just brings on her personal friends to discuss something. She talks a lot about the enneagram, which I’ve gotten into recently.

The Going Scared Podcast with Jessica Honegger

Jessica is the founder of Noonday Collective, a social impact fashion company. Her podcast is a mix of business advice, personal development and motivation. She is a Christian and her values definitely shine through on the podcast. I would describe Jessica as earnest in a great way, and she is never afraid to ask hard questions or share the messy parts of her story.

The School of Greatness Podcast

Lewis Howes is a motivational speaker/business guru/author etc. Episodes range from interviews with entrepreneurs, health professionals, athletes, mindset and relationships coaches or Lewis just covering one of those topics on his own. He is definitely a hype man and you need to be interested in self development to get into a lot of it, but I’m not overly into that stuff and still really enjoy his podcast.

For Fun

Armchair Expert

It’s no hidden secret, but I love Dax Shepard’s podcast! Dax and his co-host Monica Padman interview different people – everyone from famous celebrities to scientists to journalists. They’re funny, but very intelligent and often introduce me to subjects I would never have listened to otherwise.

Bad On Paper

One of my favorite fashion and lifestyle bloggers, Grace Atwood, hosts this fun podcast with her friend Becca Freeman. It’s usually pretty light and covers topics like books, skincare, fashion and relationships, but also has good career and life advice. They often interview guests who have included other bloggers, Eva Chen and even Cindy Crawford.

Be There In Five

This is a new find for me, I’ve followed Kate Kennedy on Instagram for a while, but just started listening to her podcast. She gives smart commentary on pop culture events and phenomenon, and occasional interviews with other lifestyle personalities. Her shows are longer, usually around 2 hours, and she often does series, “deep diving” into a subject. I most recently got sucked into her “Mormon Mommy Blogger” deep dive and was FASCINATED.

Inside Trader Joe’s

Any Trader Joe’s lover (who isn’t) would get a kick out of this podcast. They’re short episodes lead by members of Trader Joe’s marketing team and give insight into the behind the scenes of Trader Joe’s, on everything from product development to training to how they pick new locations.

Office Ladies

I freaked out when I heard Angela Kinsey (Angela) and Jenna Fischer (Pam) were starting a podcast. Each week they break down an episode of the office, sharing memories, behind the scenes info and often call other cast or crew members. I look forward to it every week!

Twirl Talk Podcast

My best friend hosts this podcast for the local bridal boutique where I got my wedding dress! She gives great advice for brides to be, those in relationships, but also interviews guests that any woman could learn from.

So you might realize there’s something missing from this list.. there’s not much food! I haven’t found many food podcasts that I love. I recently listened to a few episodes of The Splendid Table and did enjoy that, but if you have any other recommendations, drop them in the comments below!

Biscuits & blessings,

Leels
