Another wedding post for ya! Today I’m sharing all the details about my wedding dress and what I wore on wedding day. I got my dress from Twirl in Lexington. One of my dearest friends manages the store and I knew it was where I would get my dress. They have what I think is the widest selection in Lexington and make your dress shopping experience so personal and special.
It’s funny, everyone always says you end up with a dress that is nothing like what you thought you wanted, which is kind of what happened to me. I thought I wanted a strapless fit and flare classic white dress with no lace or embellishment. When I got to Twirl they had pulled a few dresses they thought I might like (including the one I ended up buying!) and I looked around and pulled a few more. I probably tried on 12-15 dresses, but it was pretty easy to narrow all of them down to two options. I was in between a plain white one like I had thought and the dress I ended up going with. The plain one just cut me at the waist a little bit weird, so I landed on a very not plain choice! My dress is the Zurie from Anne Barge in the color Pearl. It has a beautiful sequined lace detail in an almost vintage scalloped pattern.
My veil and garter were both my mom’s. Totally unplanned, the scallop detail on my dress matched the scallop of her veil perfectly! Her veil was originally on a headband, which we took to The Needle’s Eye to be placed on a comb. I should also mention Darling Sew Shop altered my wedding dress and did a great job. I was very lucky that Twirl knew to order my dress with a custom length so we didn’t have to worry about messing with the scallop hem and my dress only needed to be taken in a bit.
Since my dress was pretty blingy, I kept jewelry simple with just earrings. I wanted a vintagey look, and my mom happened to have a pair of Stella & Dot earrings (she sells the brand) that were exactly what I was looking for. Double bonus that it got to be my something borrowed! I will admit my second pair of earrings were a ~little~ extra. I found these Mignonne Gavigan rose champagne earrings on Instagram ages ago and had been stalking them ever since. I changed into them midway into the reception as my “party earrings”. LOL I know, but they were just so me!
I wanted fun shoes that I would be comfortable walking/dancing in, so a block heel was a priority. I found a Badgley Mischka pair that were decently comfortable and matched my vintage style. This style from the same brand has a little less bling, but are only $89. When I did my earring change I also switched into a pair of Veja sneakers with gold detail so I could dance with no worries 😉 Apparently Meghan Markle has a pair of these as well (I bought them first!) so they’re sold out in gold, but here they are in black and also come in a bunch of different colors and styles.
And now I will spam you with a bunch of wedding photos, because I’m obsessed! All photos are by our lovely wedding photographers, the Malicotes.
Pro tip: Buy your wedding dress from one of your best friends and you’re guaranteed to have someone who knows how to bustle your dress in your wedding party 😉 Seriously though, I cannot recommend Twirl more, and even if you don’t personally know someone there, they will become your best friends fast.
