Well, we’re married and back from the honeymoon! It is honestly still hard to find words for just how perfect everything was. We are so grateful for everyone who helped us celebrate and I’m thankful for all of your kind words and congratulations! I will be sharing several blog posts about the wedding as we get back photos, but for now wanted to share the nutrition and fitness routine I followed before the wedding.
First of all, I wanted to make a little disclaimer that I do not think you need to go on a diet just because you are getting married. I felt great in my dress when I bought it eight months before the wedding, but focused on nutrition/fitness as a way to feel extra confidant. To be completely honest, I was definitely somewhat motivated out of vanity. My dress was pretty fitted and I wanted my arms to look really good, ha. I also knew I would essentially be living in a swim suit for two weeks on our honeymoon.
I’ve shared before about the weight loss boot camp I follow, T.R.I.M. Boot Camp, that combines carb cycling and intermittent fasting. There are three low carb days a week, and on the other days you focus on balancing macros (fats/proteins/carbs). You track your macros and calories on My Fitness Pal. The program also has corresponding workouts five days a week. I did my first round of T.R.I.M. last summer and lost about ten pounds. Ever since then, I’ve incorporated the philosophies of the program into my nutrition and fitness routine. I probably put on about five of the pounds I lost over the holidays and then started another round of T.R.I.M. Boot Camp in January. I followed for about four weeks before losing steam (got super busy with work and life), and then probably followed the philosophies 75/25, working out 4-5 times a week.
Six weeks before the wedding, I got “hard core” and started following T.R.I.M. Boot Camp about 95% of the time (more serious than I’ve ever taken it.) I actually logged into My Fitness Pal 30 days in a row, which I’ve never done before. I also started working out with a trainer, Wes at LIFT, two days a week. With T.R.I.M. you do two days of cardio and three of strength training. I love the workouts, but find I’m motivated best with workout classes, so I typically had been taking 3-4 group classes and doing T.R.I.M. workouts the other 1-2 days a week. I really wanted to focus on my arms before the wedding, so I wanted specialized help. Wes and I did strength training focusing on my arms, but incorporating some full body. I would do a T.R.I.M. leg workout on my own one day a week and typically a class for cardio two days a week. I also started taking a 30 minute core class at Everybody Fights through Classpass on my rest day.
Classpass is a membership through which you can take workout classes at a bunch of different local gyms. I do the $49/month package which gets me around 8 classes a month, but I’ve gotten as many as 10 classes! They also have packages for less or more classes a month. There are great studios like SWEAT, EverybodyFights, LIFT, CycleYou, Proof Fitness, Creative Yoga, BODYFIT and more.
All in all, I lost about 15-17 pounds since January. I actually tried on the same size dress that I ordered in December, which fit pretty snug, and had to have it taken in several inches. But most importantly, I felt so confidant on my wedding day! I also felt great leading up to the wedding, I had a ton of energy and was waking up to workout at 5:30am. We didn’t eat too horribly on our honeymoon – the food in Bali was on the healthier side – and I actually didn’t gain any weight while we were gone. Yesterday we had a bunch of food catered at work and I ate mini burgers, mac ‘n cheese, chicken fingers.. basically all the things I hadn’t eaten for months, and I felt so bad afterwards I can tell my body knew the change. I’m going to try to still follow the principles of T.R.I.M. mostly because I want to feel this good! If you’re interested, the next round of T.R.I.M. starts Monday, September 2.
